Trials and Testing

Trials and Testing of concepts in 2016

During 2015 SEAI supported three projects which tested finance models for funding home retrofit.
In 2016 it is intended to build on this real life test-based research, through funding further models for financing retrofit in the residential sector. Areas of focus will include, but are not restricted to, finance models provided by:

  • banks
  • credit unions
  • consumer finance agencies and
  • employer-based lending models

SEAI is now seeking applications for trial projects where a financing package is offered to homeowners and is coupled with other supports in terms of focused offerings, tailored advice and project implementation support for homeowners. SEAI believe that this comprehensive support role is crucial to success as research with homeowners has shown that homeowners are seeking an energy adviser to guide and support them through the entire process - from initial investigation through to works being completed, documentation and quality assurance.

Application and Evaluation

SEAI is open to potential trials and pilots. Do not hesitate to approach us to discuss the development of potential applications. Application queries should be sent to Josephine Maguire.

The evaluation of applications for support of trial projects will be based on:

  1. Homes and technology focus
  2. Robustness of the project
  3. Value for money in terms of project delivery.

Decisions regarding any project funding will be made under SEAI's normal decision making process for financial support.
