Together, Kerry County Council and the Town Councils of Tralee, Killarney & Listowel constitute the Kerry Local Authorities.
The four Kerry local authorities have a total staff of approximately 1,500 who deliver a wide range of services and supports to local communities. These include Housing, Roads, Water, Environmental Protection, Planning, Emergency Services and many more.
The scale and volume of projects outlined reflects the commitment within Kerry Local Authorities (KLA) to improved energy efficiencies across all services. Since the establishment of the Regional Energy Office in Kerry County Council in 1999 in excess of 185 energy and energy cost saving projects have been completed in areas including water pumping, waste water treatment, renewable energy generation, buildings and public lighting.
Kerry Local Authorities have saved over €1 million on energy costs since 2000. Some of their pioneering projects include:
- Innovative technology to manage water services,
- Upgrading multiple residential and public buildings to superior levels of energy performance
- and installing a biomass district heating system, fuelled locally to heat 100 homes and many community buildings.
Kerry Local Authorities are leaving a Legacy and an exemplary record for others to follow.
