B2 rated home
Why upgrade to a B2 rated home
If you are upgrading an older home, we recommend you aim for a minimum BER of B2. You should also switch your heating system from oil or gas to a heat pump. That's because a B2 rated home is considered the benchmark for excellent energy performance and home comfort. Compare your home to a B2 rated home here and see the difference in your bills, comfort and carbon emissions.
Why B2 rated homes are comfortable
To reach a B2 energy rating, you need to reduce heat loss in your home and install an efficient heating system. High levels of attic, floor and wall insulation will keep your heat in. New windows and doors will keep draughts out. A heat pump will give you hot water and maintain a constant temperature in your home. Demand control ventilation will keep your air quality at a high level.
Save on energy bills
Getting your home to a B2 rating or higher and switching to a heat pump, gives you excellent energy savings. Once your home is fully insulated you can install renewable energy such as solar panels. This will further improve your BER and reduce your energy bills.
Increase the value of your home
The value of your home increases by 1% for every level you go up on the BER scale. For example, a home that goes from a BER of G to a B2 rating will increase its value by 10%. That means when you carry out energy upgrades to your home, you are increasing the value of your home.
