14:00 – 16:00 | Roadmap for Decarbonisation of Commercial and Public Buildings | This in-depth half-day seminar will look at how to decarbonise our non-domestic stock both commercial and public. With the challenge ahead across this stock we need to take a fresh and innovative look at all potential technologies and how best to apply them. Ann-Marie is the Programme Manager for International Energy Research at the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). As part of this role, Ann-Marie acts as a National Contact Point for Horizon Europe Cluster 5 Energy. Ann-Marie holds a degree and masters in business, as well as a Diploma in Management Practice and a Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Policy. She has extensive experience of working in the energy sector, and of both national and EU funding mechanisms. Ann-Marie currently manages engagement in international energy research activity through Horizon Europe Cluster 5 and the International Energy Agency Technology Collaboration Programmes (TCPs).

As Director of Innovation within the Irish Green Building Council (IGBC), Sinéad manages directly and oversees many IGBC initiatives regarding decarbonisation of the built environment. Sinéad is an RIAI Registered Architect and Grade III Conservation Architect with almost 30 years of experience working in the Construction Industry. She is currently second Vice President of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) and the Irish representative on the Architects Council of Europe: Women in Architecture Taskforce.

Marion is responsible for IGBC’s policy and advocacy campaigns, including #BuildingLife. As part of this role, she develops IGBC’s policy positions and leads on the engagement process on consultations and draft legislation. Marion represents IGBC on World Green Building Council – Europe policy task force and Renovate Europe Committee. As Biodiversity Lead, she is also responsible for the work of the “Biodiversity & the Built Environment” Community of Practice. Marion’s working background is in policy development, stakeholder engagement, and project management. She previously managed a number of projects in the area of energy renovation, including Build Upon and the development of guidance documents to retrofit traditionally built buildings. Before joining the IGBC, Marion worked in Dublin Chamber, Eurochambres and the European Parliament. Marion holds a MA in European Affairs from Sciences-Po (France) and an MSc in environmental sustainability from University College Dublin.

Sinead Kelly joined PwC Ireland in 2021 as a director in the tax team working with renewable energy funds and clients. A long-term proponent of the critical role that sustainability plays across business, Sinead has a number of roles within the firm. She is the sustainability leader within the financial services tax team and also leads out on decarbonisation for our tax practice. Sinead is part of the PwC ESG leadership tax team which is building out ESG and tax across the wider Irish firm and links into the global PwC sustainability network.
With her team, Sinead really enjoys supporting clients that are investing in sustainable business transformation and in particular helping to navigate the role that tax can play in the transition to a low carbon future.

Tomás Flanagan joined ÉireComposites in 2014 as R&D Director and was promoted to CEO in 2018. He has a PhD on Engineering Project Management from the University of Cambridge and has secured and managed €20m in research funding. He has led significant projects funded by Horizon Europe, ESA, Enterprise Ireland, SEAI and the Marine Institute. Tomás has travelled extensively and lived in the UK, the USA, Germany, and Norway. He has extensive experience and expertise in manufacturing complex products using composite materials, especially for aerospace, tidal energy, and wind energy. Prior to joining ÉireComposites, Tomás worked for BP and Boeing. He is currently collaborating with several Irish and international universities. ÉireComposites specialises in the design, manufacturing, and development of composite structures and technology. With over 25 years of expertise, ÉireComposites is a leader in sectors such as aviation, space, renewable energy, and mobility. ÉireComposites is committed to pioneering research and development in new materials, designs, and manufacturing techniques. The company currently supplies parts for Airbus and Bombardier aircraft and will supply the stray light baffles for ESA’s Altius missions which is set to launch next year.

Niall is Group Technical Director with Ecological Building Systems. He is a Certified European Passivhaus Consultant and founding board member of Irish Green Building Council (IGBC). Niall has provided technical guidance on several national standard committees and provides expert input to several working groups with the UK Centre for Moisture in Buildings, UK Passivhaus Trust, IGBC and the NSAI.
His specialist areas of expertise include building physics, energy conservation, hygrothermal analysis, airtightness, natural insulation materials, and vapour diffusion open constructions.
Niall has provided guidance to many award-winning new build and retrofit projects in Ireland and the UK. He has also authored chapters for several low energy building publications including The Passivhaus Handbook and The Passivhaus Designers Manual. His own Passivhaus features in the latest issue of Understanding Passivhaus by Emma Walshaw. He regularly provides technical contributions to numerous professional bodies including the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland Journal.
