Solar Thermal Grant for Business

Solar thermal enables businesses to generate their own energy for hot water from the sun. SEAI offer a business grant of up to 30% for solar thermal.

About the grant

Solar thermal technology captures energy from the sun and in turn uses it to heat water. It is typically sized to meet 60% of the total hot water load of a building. It can be used to service any system where thermal energy is a requirement. This grant provides up to 30% of the overall costs of a new solar thermal installation. 

Grant value

Grant amounts will range from €1,000 to €50,000. The exact grant value is based on your proposed system size. You are free to select your system size, including the area of the solar thermal installation and the capacity of storage vessel.

This grant is open to all businesses, public sector, community groups and charities seeking to reduce their carbon footprint and save money.

  1. Register on the SEAI Application Portal. For returning businesses, just login using your username and password
  2. Select ‘Business Energy Upgrades’ from the drop-down list
  3. Follow the steps, there's no requirement for any documentary upload or a review process at this stage
  4. Once you hit ‘Submit’, you'll receive an automated ‘Letter of Offer’ within minutes
  5. You are free to start the works immediately

Top tips when making your application

  1. If you are not already registered with SEAI, your can register on the application portal. This process should take no more than 10 minutes.
  2. Check out the Pre-Application Form which mirrors the questions in the application portal. You can use it to confirm with your selected company/contractor the options to choose when making your application.
  3. You'll need to provide the contact details for the company who'll carry out the works for you.
  4. Confirm with your company they can meet all the requirements of the scheme. These details are in the Pre-Application Form.
