About the grant

This grant supports SMEs looking to reduce energy use and decarbonise their building. The grant makes it more affordable to access a consultant engineer. They will plot the best route for your business. The options outlined will focus on 3 main goals.

  • Maximising energy efficiency
  • Decarbonising your heat
  • Controlling and monitoring energy use to build on these efficiencies into the future

When you apply for the technical assistance grant, you'll need to make one selection under the following 3 areas:

  • Renewable Heat  
  • Energy Efficiency  
  • Building Management System (BMS) Controls

Your consultant will provide a design package incorporating these technologies to your building. You'll receive high level drawings, system sizing, potential sequencing and the costs for each technology. These will be in line with grant guidelines.

The accompanying design report will give you a holistic overview of other technologies that may suit your business.

Grant value

Up to 50% of the costs for a consultant engineer who will complete the report. Grant amounts will range from €3,000 to €25,000 based on the selection you make under the 3 categories and your building area.

Find an energy consultant

The package must be signed off by a chartered engineer (Building Services, Mechanical, Electrical). This ensures the robustness of the works provided.

Chartership should be awarded through either Engineers Ireland or Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) Ireland. Contact Engineers Ireland or CIBSE Ireland, who can suggest a potential chartered engineer in your area.

  1. Register on the SEAI Application Portal. For returning businesses, just login using your username and password.
  2. Select 'Business Energy Upgrades’ from the drop-down list
  3. Follow the steps, there's no requirement for any documentary upload or a review process at this stage
  4. Once you hit ‘Submit’, you'll receive an automated ‘Letter of Offer’ within minutes
  5. You are free to start the works immediately

Top tips when making your application

  1. If you are not already registered with SEAI, your can register on the application portal. This process should take no more than 10 minutes.
  2. Check out the Pre-Application Form for your measure which mirrors the questions in the application portal. You can use it to confirm with your selected company/contractor the options to choose when making your application.
  3. You'll need to provide the contact details for the company/contractor who'll carry out the works for you.
  4. Confirm your company/contractor can meet the requirements of the scheme. These details are in the Pre-Application Form.
