Project Description

Much research has been conducted in Ireland to date on the potential of electric vehicles (cars) to provide and alternative low carbon solution for the future of our transport needs. However, less research has been done on the wider range of electric vehicles such as electric bikes and e-cargo bikes. This research will build upon the highly successful work developed in both UCD and UL that examines the potential of loaning electric bikes to users to change their transport habits. This next stage of the research will now focus on companies and offer commuters a chance to trial an electric bike and determine if a switch to such a vehicle could reduce their overall emissions. Several quantitative and qualitative methods will be used pre and post interactions with the bike library to determine the potential emissions reductions and also the opportunity for households to perhaps reduce car ownership. The work will provide policymakers with a rigorous and robust evaluation and indications of the potential of promoting these modes to reach our climate goals.
