Project Description

There can be local conflicts between near-neighbours and developers of Wind Energy Projects (WEP), resulting from a combination of environmental, social and economic concerns which are often beyond what is addressed by consenting procedures. The project team at Astoneco Management aim to mobilise their experience in five WEPs in Ireland, together with extensive experience on over 20 projects overseas, to bring into the public domain a process to address these risks. The project aims to develop a co-designed engagement process and assistance scheme that both near-neighbours and WEP developers sign-off on, to address any potential conflicts currently facing the deployment of renewable energy technology in Ireland. This approach aims to underpin efforts of the Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS) through a systematic citizen engagement approach. The project is designed to be less than one year so that: (i) Its findings can get into the public domain quickly; (ii) It can mobilise the research required to help near-neighbours and WEP project managers to resolve their differences in an efficient and effective way (the project will also be supported by a reputable national research organisation); and (iii) If successful, it could then be scaled up to continue into further years.
