SEAI analyses total available final energy consumption by energy product and by stream. Total available final energy consumption is calculated as the sum of nineteen streams:
- National production (+)
- Imports (+)
- Exports (-)
- Marine bunkers (-)
- Stock change (+ or -)
- Public thermal power plants transformation input (-) and output (+)
- Combined heat and power plants transformation input (-) and output (+)
- Pumped storage transformation input (-) and output (+)
- Briquetting plants transformation input (-) and output (+)
- Oil refineries and other energy sector transformation input (-) and output (+)
- Electricity exchanges and transfers (+ or -)
- Heat exchanges and transfers (+ or -)
- Other exchanges and transfers (+ or -)
- Own use and distribution losses (-)
Activities that add energy to primary energy requirement or energy available for final consumption have been assigned positive values. Activities that remove energy from primary energy requirement or energy available for final consumption have been assigned negative values.
Total Available Final Consumption
Yearly Change
The data view below shows the annual net total available final consumption, summed across all streams: exports, imports, marine bunkers, national production, stock change, briquetting plants (input and output), combined heat and power plants (input and output), oil refineries and other energy sector (input and output), public thermal power plants (input and output), pumped storage (input and output), electricity exchange and transfers, other exchange and transfers and own use and distribution losses (top). Also shown are the absolute and percentage differences of net total available final consumption, with respect to the previous year for up to 20 years, where data is available (bottom).
Breakdown by Energy Product
The data view below shows the annual net total available final consumption, summed across all streams: exports, imports, marine bunkers, national production, stock change, briquetting plants (input and output), combined heat and power plants (input and output), oil refineries and other energy sector (input and output), public thermal power plants (input and output), pumped storage (input and output), electricity exchange and transfers, other exchange and transfers and own use and distribution losses is shown with its energy product breakdown (top). The energy product breakdown is also displayed as a percentage of the total available final consumption (bottom).
Breakdown by Stream
The data view below shows the annual net total available final consumption (line), summed across all streams (bars): exports, imports, marine bunkers, national production, stock change, briquetting plants (input and output), combined heat and power plants (input and output), oil refineries and other energy sector (input and output), public thermal power plants (input and output), pumped storage (input and output), electricity exchange and transfers, other exchange and transfers and own use and distribution losses.
Using the Annual Data Views
The data views can be customised and navigated by:
- Selecting the units from the dropdown menu - kilotonnes of oil equivalent (ktoe) (default), terajoules (TJ), or terawatt hours (TWh).
- Hovering over an element of a view to display a tooltip providing numerical values.
The data in the views can be downloaded by clicking on the 'download icon' and selecting:
- Image to download the view as a PNG file.
- Data to open a table of the underlying data in Tableau Public Crosstab to download the underlying data as a XLSX file (Microsoft Excel) or a CSV file (comma-separated values).
- PDF to download the view as a PDF.
