SEAI analyses data relevant to peat by sub-product, stream and sector. This page refers to:

  • Peat primary energy requirement
  • Energy input to electricity generation from peat
  • Peat available final energy consumption
  • Peat final energy consumption

Peat Primary Energy Requirement

Yearly Change

The data view pane below shows the annual net primary energy requirement of peat, summed across all relevant streams: exports, national production and stock change (top), along with the absolute and percentage differences of peat primary energy requirement, with respect to the previous year for up to 20 years, where data is available (bottom).

Breakdown by Stream

The data view below shows the annual primary energy requirement of peat broken out by stream (bars), alongside the net value (line).

Breakdown by Energy Sub-Product

The data view below shows the annual primary energy requirement of peat, summed across all relevant streams: exports, marine bunkers and stock change along with its energy sub-product breakdown (top). The energy sub-product breakdown is also displayed as a percentage of the peat primary energy requirement (bottom). Secondary sub-products can have negative values here as inter-product transfers describe the reclassification of products and are therefore reported as a negative value for one product, compensated by a positive value for another product

Breakdown by Energy Input to Electricity Generation or Other Uses

The data view below shows the annual net primary energy requirement of peat, summed across all relevant streams: exports, national production and stock change (top), along with the breakdown between peat energy input to electricity generation or other uses. This is displayed as a percentage of peat primary energy requirement in a given year (bottom).

Peat Energy Input to Electricity Generation

Yearly Change

The data view below shows the annual energy input to electricity generation from peat, summed across public thermal power plants (PTPP) input and combined heat and power plants (CHP) input (top), along with the absolute and percentage differences of peat input to electricity generation, with respect to the previous year for up to 20 years, where data is available (bottom).

Peat Available Final Consumption

Breakdown by Stream

The data view below shows the annual net available final consumption of peat (line), summed across all relevant streams (bars): exports, national production, stock change, briquetting plants (input and output), combined heat and power plants (input), public thermal power plants (input), electricity exchange and transfers and own use and distribution losses.

Peat Final Energy Consumption

Yearly Change

The data view below shows the annual final energy consumption of peat, summed across all sectors: agriculture, commercial services, fisheries, industry, public services, residential, transport (top), along with the absolute and percentage differences of peat final energy consumption, with respect to the previous year for up to 20 years, where data is available (bottom).

Breakdown by Sector

The data view below shows the annual final energy consumption of peat, summed across all sectors: agriculture, commercial services, fisheries, industry, public services, residential, transport (top), along with the sectoral breakdown displayed as a percentage of peat final energy consumption in a given year (bottom).

Breakdown by Sub-Product

The data view below shows the annual final energy consumption of peat, summed across all sectors: agriculture, commercial services, fisheries, industry, public services, residential, transport is shown with its energy sub-product breakdown (top). The energy sub-product breakdown is also displayed as a percentage of the peat final energy consumption (bottom).

Using the Annual Data Views

The data views can be customised and navigated by:

  • Selecting the units from the dropdown menu - kilotonnes of oil equivalent (ktoe) (default), terajoules (TJ), or terawatt hours (TWh).
  • Hovering over an element of a view to display a tooltip providing numerical values.

The data in the views can be downloaded by clicking on the 'download icon' and selecting:

  • Image to download the view as a PNG file.
  • Data to open a table of the underlying data in Tableau Public Crosstab to download the underlying data as a XLSX file (Microsoft Excel) or a CSV file (comma-separated values).
  • PDF to download the view as a PDF.
  • PowerPoint to download the view as a PPTX file for Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Tableau Workbook to download all views as a TWBX file for Tableau Desktop.
