Review data related to the energy input to and output from from Ireland's oil refining transformation activities. Definitive annual data from SEAI's National Energy Balance.

Use the sidebar links to jump to data views on this page, or to learn more about how to interact with the annual data views.

Transformation outputs are less than the energy inputs due to the energy required to make the transformations, and losses from those processes. SEAI analyses the energy input to and output from oil refining activities by energy sub-product. This page refers to transformation input and output activities in the 'oil refineries and other energy sector' stream.

Total Energy Input to/Output from Oil Refining

Input - Yearly Change

The data view below shows the annual total energy input to the oil refineries and other energy sector stream (top), along with the absolute and percentage differences of input to energy input to the oil refineries and other energy sector, with respect to the previous year for up to 20 years, where data is available (bottom).

Output - Yearly Change

The data view below shows the annual total energy output from the oil refineries and other energy sector stream (top), along with the absolute and percentage differences of energy output from oil refineries and other energy sector, with respect to the previous year for up to 20 years, where data is available (bottom).

By Energy Sub-Product

The data view below shows the annual energy product breakdown of the total energy input to and output from the oil refineries and other energy sector stream in a given year. Tailor the view to show either/both input and output values.

Using the Annual Data Views

The data views can be customised and navigated by:

  • Selecting the units from the dropdown menu - kilotonnes of oil equivalent (ktoe) (default), terajoules (TJ), or terawatt hours (TWh).
  • Hovering over an element of a view to display a tooltip providing numerical values.

The data in the views can be downloaded by clicking on the 'download icon' and selecting:

  • Image to download the view as a PNG file.
  • Data to open a table of the underlying data in Tableau Public Crosstab to download the underlying data as a XLSX file (Microsoft Excel) or a CSV file (comma-separated values).
  • PDF to download the view as a PDF.
  • PowerPoint to download the view as a PPTX file for Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Tableau Workbook to download all views as a TWBX file for Tableau Desktop.
