About the Large Industry Energy Network (LIEN)

Introduction

Over the past 25 years, the Large Industry Energy Network has grown and developed into one of the world's leading energy efficiency networks. Its membership encompasses a significant number of the prominent organisations operating in Ireland, all keen to take a strategic approach to energy management and be at the cutting edge of developments in sustainable energy use and management.

Recognition for the network members continues to develop too as the number of companies in Ireland being recognised for their efforts has seen them transition into global energy leads thought their wider company groups over the last year. This is a testament to not only the people involved but the commitment and leadership these companies have shown in Ireland.

3 new companies joined in 2020 and LIEN currently has 196 active member companies who employ approximately 140,000 people throughout Ireland and spend €1.1bn on energy annually. Members of the network recognise that energy efficiency and sustainability are core principles, which have the potential to deliver financial savings and competitive advantage. In 2020 members reported implementation of 238 energy projects, which reduced their energy bills by €17.6 million and their CO2 emissions by approximately 142,000 tonnes.

The members of the network have a major role to play, as they have in the past, showing leadership and innovation to minimise the carbon impact of an expanding economy.
